Persvrance scolaire / Student Retention (Quebec, Canada) (original) (raw)
The Journes de la Persvrance Scolaire (JPS - Days of Student Retention) have been organized in the Province of Quebec every year during the third week of February since 2004. In 2010, the Quebec National Assembly unanimously adopted a motion supporting the organization of the event. The Journes de la Persvrance are inaugurated by the official hoisting of the program flag by the institutions (municipalities, universities, schools) supporting the program.
The first flag of the program, white with the emblem in the center, was raised on 15 February 2003 over the municipal hall of the South-West borough in Montreal by Samantha Sasseville and Philippe Ivanescu, students at the Saint-Henri secondary school.

The emblem of the program is a light green ribbon on a white background. The ribbon was introduced in 2009 by the authority in charge of the program in the Lanaudire region (CREVALE). Green is a symbol of youth and hope, while white is a symbol of the educational community. The two, interlaced threads of the ribbon symbolize the union of the two communities. The ribbon is manufactured by SERLAN, a company located in the Lanaudire region employing mostly disabled people.
