Banner of Arms

The flag is a banner of arms.
The arms are blazoned "Per chevron Vert and Or the apex terminating in a Celtic cross, overall a pale, in chief two maple leaves and in base a fleur-de-lis, all counterchanged".
The three vertical bands represent the geographic location of Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel, a self-governing municipality located between the cities of Shawinigan and Trois-Rivires. Their subdivision into six parts of alternating colours, green and gold, illustrates the importance of agriculture in the municipalitys history. The division line forming a mountain visually represents Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel. The cross, symbolizing the municipalitys Catholic heritage, refers to the cross erected on the mountain. The fleur-de-lis and the maple leaves situate the municipality in Quebec and Canada, respectively.
Flag before 2009
The city website showed a white flag with undistinguishable details in the Spring of 2001.
