On 1 January 2017 the 11 districts of Albula, Bernina,Hinterrhein, Imboden, Inn,Landquart, Maloja, Moesa,Plessur, Prättigau-Davos and Surselvawere reorganized to 11 regions (see below). 9 of the 11 former districts were renamed to regions, while keeping their territorial expansion, but mostly with a new number of communes (including mergers). The districts ofHinterrhein and Inn were dissolved. The regions of Engiadina Bassa/Val Müstair and Viamala were newly created. The subdivisions of the former districts, the circles, were dissolved (Clickable maps of former GR districts andformer GR circles).
