The anchor on the flag of Melide is an evident symbol for this lake-village partially built on a natural dam.
Melide is also the place where you can see all the major monuments of Switzerland in miniature (Swissminiatur).
Pascal Gross, 9 July 2003

[The dam of Melide is not natural, although Melide has a headland. From 1818 until the construction of a bridge in 1847 there
was a regular ferry service between Melide and Bissone(Those communes are on the Gotthard route). The anchor in the
emblem refers to that time. In 1854 the bridge was expanded to a dam, which was widened in 1874 for the construction of the
railway. In 1968 the motorway A2 was added, so that today three strands of traffic cross this passage over the_Lake Lugano_
(aka Ceresio).]
