On 1 January 2009 the new commune was formed by the merger of Mörel and Filet (see below).
The new emblem adopted the symbolism of the old Filet emblem (leaving out the wavy bar), which anticipated the merger (see description at Filet).

The star stands for Filet, the ox for Mörel, which is on the opposite side of the Rhone river (which is called Rotten in the Upper Valais), symbolized by the wavy bar.
