About the flag

The Commune of Mejillones in the Province of Antofagasta, has a new flag and coat of arms. The flag is light blue with municipal coat of arms on it and inscription "ILUSTRE MUNICIPALIDAD / DE MEJILLONES" in darker blue letters bellow it.

Interestingly, the CoA shows a scallop shell, but "mejillones" means "mussels."

The flag of Mejillones, as shown behind the mayor on the official website is light blue with arms and yellow letters.

Before the current symbols, another set of flag and coat of arms, as seen on Wikipedia, were in use different from the flag presented in FOTW.

Regarding the flag reported by Olivier Touzeau, 16 August 2006, I am quite sure his image reflects what was in use back then, and not just a poor rendering of the one Valentin contributed, even though it’s the same basic design. Sadly, the official website as archived as of August 2006 https://web.archive.org/web/20060701123600/http://www.mejillones.cl/ shows almost all images as broken links (because they used a “modern” way to create website links which quickly become obsolete while classic href and src links work perfectly to this day).
