Current Coat of Arms of Simmerath
The current flag of Current coat-of-arms of Simmerathis has in a golden (=yellow) shield a blue capital letter "S." The whole ensemble looks like a blue shield with a yellow bordure. According to my source "S" is the first letter of the municipality's name.

Former Coat of Arms of Simmerath
The former Coat of Arms of Simmerath has in a golden (= yellow) shield two cut down stems of red beech tree, each having an offspring with seven green leaves. A bundle of green grass is sprouting between the stems. In the middle above is a red chapel with a black roof topped by a cross. The arms probably are canting. The suffix ºrath, elsewhere also ºreut, ºreuth or ºrode means "uprooting" and was used for new settlements having been established in the woods during the middle ages.
