Bad Berneck Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, in sinister base an inescutcheon quartered of Argent and Sable in bend, crested by a helmet Argent with visor Or and scarves Or, topped by a dog's torso quartered of Or and Sable with tongue and drop ear Gules.
Meaning:
Berneck was mentioned as a city since 1357. The city arms are a modification of the greater arms of the Zollern kin. The current pattern is known from the first city seal from 1360. A seal from the 15th century displayed the quartered shield alone. In literature of the 17th and 18th century, a coloured painting from 1812 and in newer seals since 1836 always the greater arms were displayed. The tincture of the dog was chosen according to a painting from 1812. A seal from 1581 displayed the quartered shield, the silver quarters were charged with a black bear climbing up on a black bendlet.

Bad Berneck and Weißenstadt basically had the same arms, according to Klemens Stadler (see: here, p.23 and here, p. 93). The only difference was that the former used the shield of the Zollern kin and the latter its mirror image. Normally both entities nowadays use the greater arms. The existence of banners, only charged with the lesser arms (shield) is possible, but I can't give evidence. Those simplified versions then would be mirror images of one another.

The arms are in use since the 14th century.
