Gefrees Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale, at dexter quartered of Sable and Argent, at sinister Or a dog rampant Sable, armed tongued and collared Gules, issuant from an embattled wall Gules masoned Sable.
Meaning:
The first town seal is mentioned in 1466. The current pattern appeared first on a seal from 1550 and a coloured image from 1581. Quartered shield and dog are taken from the arms of the Zollern kin, who ruled the town since 1336. The embattled wall is symbolising the local fortification. Although a seal from 1672 and an image of 1767 displayed the same pattern, the dog since 1636 was misinterpreted as a lion since 1636. The lion was replaced by a dog in 1952.
