Sonnefeld Coat of Arms
Shield parted per fess, above Azure a church Argent with roofs Gules, beneath Argent an eradicated oak Vert.
Meaning:
The municipality was founded by the merger of estates, belonging to a local monastery, in 1889. Hofstätten had been a market town since since 1693. Emperor Heinrich II and his consort Kunigunde founded a Cistercian monastery in 1262 in Ebersdorf, which was destroyed by a fire in 1286 and transferred to Hofstätten. The monastery was secularised in 1525 during the Protestant Reformation. Its estates were acquired by the Duchy of Sachsen-Coburg. The oak in the arms is taken from a seal of Hofstätten from the late 18th century. The church is a representation of the minster of Sonnefeld after its renovation in 1855/1856. The tinctures silver and blue are those of Bayern, green and silver those of Sachsen-Coburg.
