Mörnsheim Coat of Arms
Shield Gules an embattled tower Argent, in front of its gate a sentinel dressed Azure, holding a pennant Gules charged with a crozier Argent and stuck on a lance Or.
Meaning:
Mörnsheim belonged to the Bishopric of Eichstätt since 1282, which is symbolised by the pennant, displaying the arms of the bishopric. The first local seal is known by prints since 1502. The tower is representing the local castle. The sentinel was considered to be a negro (German also called: Mohr). The sentinel is thus a punning element. Tinctures were first mentioned in 1811 but changed frequently during the 19th century. Local seals since 1840 displayed the tower on top of a hill. The current version was introduced by Otto Hupp (1925).
