Initial Coat of Arms
Description of coat of arms:
In a black shield is a golden (=yellow) Gothic capital "G" crowned golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
According to source the existence of the so called initial coat of arms could be proven first in 1492, first the capital had been red, later golden. This special version was derived from coins, which showed the crowned "G" since 1441. According to source this version was mentioned as proper coat of arms in the city's Hauptsatzung, version 1961, while the "full" coat of arms (see below) should be used upon seals.
