Description of banner:
The banner is vertically divided red - white - red with ratio 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the white stripe shifted to the top.
Coat of Arms
Description of coat of arms:
In a red field are three silver(=white) natural lilies ordered like a fan with green stems and leaves. They are superimposed by a silver(=white) shield showing three red chevrons.
Meaning:
According to Veddeler 2003, p.135 the arms are a misinterpretation of older arms showing three lilies in a vase. The shield with chevrons is symbolizing the counts of Ravensberg, which had been rulers in the town in the early middle ages.
Flag, banner and coat of arms were approved by Regierungspräsident Detmold on 11 September 1979.
