Flag with off-centred Arms

It is a blue-yellow-blue horizontal triband. The coat of arms is slightly shifted to the hoist and exceeding the yellow stripe.

It is a blue-yellow-blue horizontal triband with ratio of stripes approx. 1:3:1. The coat of arms is in the centre of the yellow stripe.

It is a blue-yellow-blue vertical triband with ratio of stripes approx. 1:3:1. The coat of arms is shifted to the top in the yellow stripe.

Shield parted per fess, above Azure a horse passant Argent, beneath Or a grain ear Vert in pale superimposed by hammer and mallet Sable in saltire.
Meaning:
The colours blue and yellow had been those of the Free State of Braunschweig and of the _Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg_to which the county belonged. The horse is taken from the arms of Lower Saxony. Ear and tools are symbolising agriculture and mining of coal and salt.
Flags and arms were approved on 9 July 1952 by Minister of Interior of Lower Saxony.
