Kaiserslautern County Coat of Arms
Shield Sable parted by a pale Argent fimbriated Gules and charged with a fish haurient Azure; at dexter a lion rampant Or crowned, armed and tongued Gules, at sinister five balls Argent in quincunx; chief Or charged with an eagle issuant Sable, armed and tongued Gules.
Meaning:
The Palatine lion and the balls in quincunx are taken from the arms of the Palatine Electors and the Barons of Sickingen. The families ruled more than 90% of the current county. The pale basically displays the city arms of Kaiserslautern. The differentiation of the Imperial Eagle is alluding to a royal estate, which existed in times of the Salian dynasty and the Hohenstaufen dynasty which had been located in an imperial forest surrounding the city.
