Castell Coat of Arms
Shield quartered of Gules and Argent, over all a castle Or.
Meaning:
The arms are based on a seal of the local court of justice from the 17th century. The name of the village is derived from the namesake castle on top of the Herrenberg Mountain. The castle is the ancestral seat of the Lords of Castell. The village was first mentioned in 861, the castle in 1091. The lords were elevated to counts in 1205 and had been the local rulers for ages. Their family arms displayed a shield quartered of red and white. The castle is a canting element.
