Neuenmarkt Coat of Arms
Shield Or semy of heartlets Gules; a demi-lion rampant Sable, crowned, armed and tongued Gules; base Azure charged with a winged wheel Or.
Meaning:
The demi-lion is a differentiation of the family arms of the Counts of Orlamünde. The kin established the Himmelkron Nunnery. Both owned large estates in the area. The winged wheel is symbolising the railway, as Neuenmarkt is a railway junction since the 19th century. The municipality is passed by one of Germany's steepest railway lines, a masterpiece of German railway engineering, which was finished in 1848 and is called "the inclined plane". Since 1977 the municipality is home of a tank engine museum. The tinctures blue and golden are those of the Barons of Guttenberg, former manorial lords.
