The flag's ratio is 3:5. It is a red - white - red horizontal triband. The ratio is not mentioned within source, but according to this online catalogue the white stripe is broader and the coat of arms is in the middle of the white stripe.

Description of coat of arms:
In a red shield with a narrow silver (=white) bordure is a silver (= white) upright key.
Meaning:
According to source the key is the symbol of St. Peter. Rees gained city rights in 1228, they were granted by Heinrich von M�llenark, archbishop of Kö ln. The first seals showed St. Peter, the patron saint of Köln. In the 14th century the present arms appeared first.
