Coat of arms
Shield Gules with base wavy Argent charged with irregular wavelets Sable, a bridge Argent with two pillars topped by a pair of keys in saltire of the same.
Meaning:
According to source the crossed keys are alluding to the Bishops of Minden, who erected a castle in Petershagen in 1306. Bridge and waves upon the base are symbolising that the current town of Petershagen is located on both sides of river Weser by merging of former Amt Windheim with Amt Petershagen. Red and silver had been the colours of the former Bishopric of Minden. The former arms, granted on 15 May 1908, showed the crossed keys topped by a nettle leaf. The latter reminded at Bishop Gerhard. He was a descendant of the Counts of Schaumburg and Bishop of Minden. He made Petershagen capital of the bishopric in 14th century.
