Bersenbrück Comprehensive Municipality Coat of Arms

Shield Azure, a gate lodge Argent roofed Gules, in base three barrulets wavy Argent parted in centre.
Meaning:
The gate lodge belongs to the local Cistercian monastery. The six waves are representing the six other municipalities without Bersenbr�ck city.

Alfhausen Coat of Arms

Shield Argent a 6-point star Gules, chief Gules charged with a barrulet dancetty Argent.
Meaning:
In 1971 the municipalities of Alfhausen, Heeke, Thiene and Wallen merged. The arms are those of the Lords of Bruchhausen. In source the charge in chief is erroneously described as a label.
The arms were approved in 1985.

Ankum Coat of Arms

Shield Argent, divided by a saltire Gules, each quarter is charged with an annulet Or.
Meaning:
The arms are based on the arms of the Ankum kin. The family originated from the village and held many important positions in the Osnabrück region. In the 16th century the family moved to Eastern Frisia and later to East Prussia. The village has been using the arms of the family at least since 1905, but it was used more extensively after WW2. In 1961 the municipality wanted to formalise the use of the arms, but first needed the approval of the family. The approval was granted and in 1964 the arms were officially granted.
The arms were approved on 25 November 1964.

Bersenbrück City Coat of Arms

Shield Gules, a gate lodge Argent masoned Sable, in base a throughout bridge of the same.
Meaning:
The arms display the gate of the Cistercian monastery built by Otto Count of Ravensberg in 1231. It was seculiarised in 1786. Similar depictions also appear in the arms of the namesake comprehensive municipality and the former county. Beneath the gate a bridge (German: Brücke) was added as a distinguishing mark and a canting element. The colours are taken from the colours of the arms of the Counts of Calvelage, later Counts of Ravensberg, who had their first seat in Bersenbrück.
The arms were approved in 1956, when the market town gained city status.

The church is the local parish church dedicated to St. Christopher. The sea-dragons are so called Artland dragons.

Kettenkamp Coat of Arms

Shield parted per pale wavy, at dexter Gules three farmhouses Argent in pale, at sinister Argent, three farmhouses Gules in pale.
Meaning:
The village was first mentioned in 1188 as Kedinchem and consisted of hamlets on both banks of Egger creek, symbolised by the line of partition. The arms are thus canting. The Lords of Kedinchem had been vassals of the Counts of Ravensberg, and since 1264 of the Bishops of Osnabrück. Red and white had been the colours of Ravensberg and the Bishopric of Osnabrück as well.

Meaning:
The gate is representing the gate to Lage, a pilgrimage site. The cross is alluding to the Order of the Knights of St. John.
