The ratio is approx 2:1. In the upper half are the three seagulls from the coat of arms. In the lower half is a white, centred, serifed inscription: "Stadt"(1st line), "Ostseebad"(2nd line) "Kühlungsborn"(3rd line).

The ratio is approx 2:1. In the upper half is the coat of arms. In the lower half is a blue, centred, serifed inscription: "Stadt"(1st line), "Ostseebad"(2nd line) "Kühlungsborn"(3rd line).

Kühlungsborn Coat of Arms

In a blue field are three silver (=white) seagulls with upright wings flying to the dexter side.
Meaning:
According to source the seagulls are symbolising the former municipalities of Brunshaupten, Arendsee and Fulgen, from which the city was built in 1938. The name of the city literally means "fountain in the cooling". The latter was the name of a hague, giving shadows to the locals. This hague today is just in the middle of the city. The blue colour, although having a celestial shade, is symbolising the Baltic Sea.

The coat of arms was approved on 1 April 1938 by local government and confirmed together with the flag, the flag on 8 September 1999 by decree of Minister of Interior of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and published in the Municipal Roll of Arms Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as no.20
