Hohner Harde Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a golden (= yellow) shield is a green three-peaked mountain filling nearly the whole shield. The mountain is superimposed by golden charges: a rooster on top of a column surrounded by twelve oak leaves in four columns with three leaves each.
Meaning:
The mountain is symbolizing the Eichberg, a local hill, from which the name is derived. The rooster is taken from the old seal of the subdistrict (Harde) and reminds on the history of the subdistrict. The current subcounty (Amt) includes all municipalities of the historical entity and the municipality of Breiholz. The number of leaves is alluding to the current municipalities of the subcounty: Bargstall, Breiholz, Christiansholm, Elsdorf-Westermühlen, Friedrichsgraben, Friedrichsholm, Hamdorf, Hohn, Königshügel, Lohe-Föhrden, Prinzenmoor and Sophienhamm. The green colour is symbolizing the rural environment, while the golden colour is alluding to Schleswig.

Bargstall Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
A green three-peaked mountain is filling nearly the whole golden (= yellow) shield. The mountain is divided by a golden bend wavy. Above left is a golden (= yellow) oak leaf, below right a golden (= yellow) urn.
Meaning:
The green colour is symbolizing agriculture. The bend wavy is symbolizing the Eider River. The mountain is a canting element, because the meaning of the name is "elevated place". The urn is alluding to a burial ground from the Neolithic Age, which however got lost. The leaf is symbolizing forestal riches.

Breiholz Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
In a blue shield are three silver (= white), rooted oak trees between two fesses wavy of the same colour.
Meaning:
"Breiholz" is derived from "Breit Holz" (English: wide wood). Therefore the trees are filling the toal width of the shield. The municipality is located between Eider River and Kiel Canal, which are symbolized by the fesses.

The ratio is 3:5. It is a green over yellow over green horizontal triband with ratio 1:2:1. The coat of arms is in the centre of the yellow stripe.

Christiansholm Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The green shield is divided by a golden (= yellow), C-shaped "pale". On the dexter side is a tool, on the sinister side a crown. Both are golden (= yellow).
Meaning:
The pale has the form of the initial of the municipality's name. Also the crown is alluding to the Danish king Christian (no information given, which one). He ordered to cultivate the swamps and the digging for peat, which is symbolized by the tool, called "Torfmesser" (lit.: peat knife).

Elsdorf-Westermühlen Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per bend sinister. Above right in a silver (= white) field is a green, fruited branch of alder. Below left in a green field is a silver (= white) millwheel, superimposed by a fess wavy of the same colour.
Meaning:
The branch is representing Elsdorf, which means "village of alders", while the millwheel is representing Westermühlen. The local watermill is wellknown by the family of the poet Theodor Storm. The fess wavy is symbolizing the Mühlenau, a local creek. Elsdorf and Westermühlen had been united in 1867.

The green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend sinister wavy. Above right is a silver (= white) crown. Below left is a silver (= white), statant fox.
Meaning:
The crown is alluding to the Danish king Frederik V, who ordered to cultivate the local swamps and was name giver of the municipality. The fox is symbolizing the tithing of Fuchsberg (i.e. Foxhill). The bend wavy is symbolizing the Eider River. The green colour is symbolizing the rural environment.

Description of coat of arms:
In the centre of a golden (= yellow) shield is a green crown flanked by two green tools. A green hill is on the base, superimposed by 14 masoned bricks ordered 2 : 3 : 4 : 3 : 2.
Meaning:
The crown is alluding to the Danish king Frederik V, who ordered to cultivate the local swamps and the digging for peat, which is symbolized by the tools, called "Torfmesser" (lit.: peat knife). Frederik was also name giver of the municipality. The hill is representing the suffix "-holm" (= hill).

Hamdorf Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend sinister wavy. Above right is a silver (= white), flying heron, below left an urn of the same colour.
Meaning:
The urn is symbolizing archaeological excavations, proving the existence of settlements long before the village was mentioned in 1285. The green colour is symbolizing agriculture and the local wet meadows. In the area of the municipality even today there are numerous herons. The bend wavy is symbolizing the Eider River.

Hohn Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The shield is divided per pale into blue and golden (= yellow). The dexter side displays a golden (= yellow) rooster. The sinister displayes a blue oak leaf on top of three-peaked mountain, also blue.
Meaning:
Both elements are canting. The rooster (Lower German: Hohn) sounds proper. But the name is derived from a local height, the Eichberg, i.e. oak hill, which is symbolized by the mountain and the oak leaf. The colours are those of Schleswig.

The base of the green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bar wavy. A boat of the same colour is swimming upon the bar. Above is a golden (= yellow) crown flanked by two silver (= white) tools: a "knife" on the dexter side and a spade on the sinister side. The shield has a silver (= white) embowed chief.
Meaning:
The crown is alluding to the Danish king Frederik V, who ordered to cultivate the local swamps and the digging for peat, which is symbolized by the tools, the right one called "Torfmesser" (lit.: peat knife). A boat was the only means of transport of peat in the swamps. The "hill" is a canting element.

Lohe-Föhrden Municipal Coat of Arms

Description of coat of arms:
The green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend sinister wavy. Above right is a silver (= white) branch of oak with three leaves. Below left are two silver (= white) swords crosses per saltire.
Meaning:
The bend wavy is symbolizing the little Sorge River and is canting, because Föhrden menas "ford". The number of leaves is symbolizing the three parts of the municipality: Lohe, Föhrden and Sorgbrück. Furthermore they are representing Lohe, which means "little wood". The crossed swords are alluding to history: In Lohheide numerous battles took place, e.g. in 1595 and in 1712.

The green shield is divided by a silver (= white) bend sinister wavy. Above right is a golden (= yellow) coronet, accompanied by a silver (= white) glass envelope. Below left is the blade of a silver (= white) spade.
Meaning:
The bend wavy is symbolizing the Eider River. The coronet is a canting element, alluding to princes. The spade was an instrument of digging peat in the local swamps. And the glass is alluding to the existence of numerous glass kilns in the 19th century.

Description of coat of arms:
It is a green shield. Above is a golden (= yellow) crown. Below is a silver (= white) blade of a spade. On both sides in the middle are two silver (= white) leaves of beech tree.
Meaning:
The crown is alluding to the Danish queen Sophie-Magdalena (1700-1770), the name giver of the municipality.The spade is symbolizing Moor, a village of colonists. The leaves are a canting element. "Hamme" here is interpreted as ""wood".
