Shield parted per pale, at dexter Argent an eagle Gules armed Or and parted per pale, at sinister Argent four stones lozengy Vert ordered per lozenge 1:2:1.
Meaning:
The oldest seals from 1263 displayed an embattled city wall with open gate, crowned by six towers with the red eagle of Brandenburg in chief. The secret seal of the city council from the 14th century displayed an eagle, holding a lozenge in each claw. The current arms appeared since the 16th century and before in the 15th century on Stendal bracteates; flat, thin, single-sided gold medals or coins; minted by Friedrich I of Hohenzollern. The couped eagle is a modification of the red eagle of Brandenburg. The meaning of the lozenges is unknown, the had been denoted as stones or barley graines and finally as emeralds.
