Johannes Ick - In 1891 a certain Arthur Sommer was employed by the company Johannes Ick in Danzig. More and more parts of his job within the company were one by one transferred to Hamburg and in 1903 the young man was appointed to open a new branch in Hamburg.
In 1910 Ick was the first tenant in the new built Sloman house at Baumwall 3.
In 1934 Sommer, Rob M. Sloman and Sartori & Berger acquired shares of Mathies-Reederei KG.
Until 2008 Sommer and his descendants had been lead the business of the companies Johannes Ick, Arthur Sommer and Mathies-Reederei KG. After WWII Mathies-Reederei was restructured completely and changed into a modern container shipping company. Meanwhile named �king of the Baltic Sea� Arthur Sommer died on 4 August 1947.
