Overview

The canton was formed on 9 February 1984.
A PDF file, available on the website of the Association of the Ecuadorian Municipalities, shows a drawing of the flag, as horizontally divided white-yellow with a green triangle placed along the hoist. There is a red star in the middle of the green triangle, two red stars placed horizontally in the white stripe, and two red stars placed horizontally in the yellow stripe.
