Description

Flag of Barcelona province adopted 27th July 1971, similar to the one adopted recently by the city (vertical stripes).

Jaume Ollé, 14 Feb 1999

According to the provincial flag description quoted image by Pascal Vagnat:

The provincial banner, after being studied by the Royal History Academy, is a square flag, with nine horizontal stripes, five yellow and four red, and in its center, a lozenge with a cross gules, contoured [the lozenge, not the cross] in yellow in such a manner that it [the contouring] doesn't reach the edges [?], the hoisting sleeve shall be crimson [is this different from the red on the stripes and from the "gules" in the cross?], as usual for the Monarchy.

This differs substantially from the image above originally posted image by Jaume Ollé though he gives the same date. My interpretation of the text above (without the sleeve) would be as follows, based on Jaume Ollé's images in FOTW.

The correct one [must be] square in ratio and with the lozenge fimbriated in yellow (...), as stated in the above description.

Antonio Gutiérrez, 19 Jul 1999

My image is based on the one published image by Vexilla Catalana (generally very well informed about Barcelonese flags). In fact the provincial flags are the flag of the Diputación Provincial (provincial government) and it is very dificult to see it.
