Presentation of Hontanaya
The municipality of Hontanaya (263 inhabitants in 2018; 5,363 ha) is located 100 km south-west of Cuenca.

Symbols of Hontanaya
The flag and arms of Hontanaya are prescribed by Order No. 157 issued on 6 August 2019 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 3 September 2019 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 174, p. 38,247 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:
Flag: In proportions 2:3, vertically divided in the middle. In the left part, at hoist, on a blue background the coat of arms of the town of Hontanaya, and in the right part, three blue and four gray wavy stripes.
Coat of arms: Oblong and tounded-off in base. Per pale, 1. Argent three waves azure surmounted by a fountain, 2. Argent two caldrons gyronny or and gules with three snakes or issuing from each handle. Grafted in base, gules two crossed keys or. The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown.
The fountain makes the arms canting, "hontana" (Latin, fontana) being an old form of fuente, very common in Spanish place names.
