Description of the flag
The blue-white flag was proposed in 1972, unknown by whom. The proportions are 11:18 (4-3-4 : 5-3-10). Blue and white are for the sea and snow, blue also for the connection with Sweden. Many people in the region speak Swedish as their first language.

Geography
Bothnia is the area in middle/northern Finland extending inland from the Gulf of Bothnia.
