Other rejected proposals, such as Haute-Seine and Seine-et-Loire, referred to rivers as it is the case for several other French departments.
The department has an exclave enclaved into the department of Nièvre, made of the municipality of Ménessaire.

A white flag with the logo can be seen in front and inside the seat of the Departemental Council (photo, photo).
The new logo was presented on 2 July 2015. Design by the AMT company, from Dijon, it was selected by the inhabitants of the department among three proposals; the adopted design received 73% of the 5,000 votes. Out of the 435 mayors who voted, 94% selected the winning design.
Out of the 12 companies, eight from Côte-d'Or included, which submitted a bid, three were selected by the Departmental Council: AMT, Temps Réel, and Vingt-Quatre.
