Presentation of Vrilissia
The municipality of Vrilissia (30,741 inhabitants in 2011; 366 ha), is an urbanized, northeastern suburbs of Athens. Vrilissia is located southwest of the Penteli (Πεντέλη) Mountain, from which it was named after as the ancient name of the mountain, Vrilissos.
In 1949 Vrilissia became an autonomous administrative entity of East Attica deriving from the municipality of Halandri (Χαλάνδρι), and in 1990 the region was recognized as a municipality. The suburbs experienced rapid development during 2004 as a result of city improvements for the Athens Olympic Games.
The municipality was not changed with the 2011 local government reform.
