Presentation of Klenovnik
The Municipality of Klenovnik is located some 20 km west of Varaždin. It has 2,278 inhabitants according to the 2001 census, 1,051 living in the village of Klenovnik proper.
The biggest castle in Croatia, owned by the influential Drašković family, was built there in the 17th century, today serving as a hospital. The name of the municipality means, more or less, "a maple grove", or, more specifically, "a field maple grove", the field maple being Acer campestre, known in America as the hedge maple, in Croatian, klen.

Flag of Klenovnik
Klenovnik once used a flag (photo no longer available) in proportions 1:2, blue with the unofficial coat of arms, in the middle. The flag does not seem to be in use; at least, it cannot be seen on photos of the celebration of the 770th anniversary of the municipality.

Coat of arms of Klenovnik, two unofficial versions
The municipality stated in an email dated 30 July 2014 that the two designs were considered, while no formal adoption had ever been made nor had the procedure for approval from the Ministry beenstarted. The municipality uses the coloured design with two samaras (fruits), but apparently it is still unofficial.
The alternate design was made by Cosmos Design, a company from Varaždin, with the leaf and the four samaras all golden (yellow).
