"The Indonesian Olympic Committee (Indonesian: Komite Olimpiade Indonesia, abbreviate: KOI) is the national Olympic committee of Indonesia. Their duty is to organize Indonesian participation in international sporting events, such as Olympic Games, Asian Games, Southeast Asian Games, etc. As well as submitting bid for Indonesia as the host, planning and organizing official international sporting events to be held in Indonesia. This functions was previously held by National Sports Committee of Indonesia (Indonesian: Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia or KONI).
The National Sports Committee of Indonesia (Indonesian: Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia, abbreviated KONI), is the National Sports Committee of Indonesia. It was founded in 1946 to unite the various satellite sports associations that was created within the regencies.
In 2005, KOI (Komite Olimpiade Indonesia or Indonesian Olympic Committee) was formed as a separate entity from KONI. The KONI-KOI separation was based according to Undang-Undang Nomor 3 Tahun 2005 (English: Government Law No. 3, of 2005) regarding the National Sport System, and further enforced with Peraturan Pemerintah Nomor 16-18 Tahun 2007 (English: Government Regulations No- 16-18 of 2007) about the organizing of sporting events.
