About the organization

"Parliamentarians for Global Action, PGA, is a non-profit, non-partisan international network of 1,200 legislators in 139 elected parliaments around the globe, that informs and mobilizes parliamentarians in all regions of the world to advocate for human rights and the rule of law, democracy, human security, non-discrimination, gender equality, and climate justice and peace. PGA was established in 1978-1979 in Washington, DC by concerned parliamentarians from around the world to take joint action on global problems, which could not be solved by any one government or parliament. Initally focused on nuclear disarmament, the New York City based organization also works on global issues such as fostering democracy, conflict prevention and management, international law and human rights population, and environment. PGA has acquired expertise over years of mobilizing its worldwide membership on successful campaigns in favor of international binding treaties such as the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBC), the Chemical Weapons Convention(CWC), the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), the Arms Trade, and the Rome Statute of theInternational Criminal Court (ICC).
