Minister of Defense
On 6 January 2001, both the flag of Japanese Prime Minister and the flag of Minister of Defence were changed. I found it from "The gazette of National Defence Agency"
The flag of Minister of Defence was changed as follows. the color of cherry blossom: silver to gold. Namely, new flag of Minister of Defence is the same as former flag of Prime Minister.

On Jan 9th 2007 Japan Defense Agent changed its name to Ministry of Defense and changed rank names.
Minister of Defense flag contains five gold cherry blossoms on deep purplish red field.

Senior Vice-Minister of Defense is four gold cherry blossoms on deep purplish red field.

The Vice Minister of Defense uses the same pattern as the Minister of Defense, except there are four cherry blossoms instead of five. Also the cherry blossoms are arranged in two rows of two.
