The city emblem was adopted on Sep 1st 1970 by Notice No 8 but there is no flag law. The purple flag has a white city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana お O of Obu in a circle. The emblem can read hiragana の No of Nogyo = agriculture, kanji 工 of 工業 Kogyo = industry and hiragana し Shi of shiogyo = commerce as well. The seven lines represent the former seven towns become one to develop and grow in peace.
