The city emblem was adopted on Jul 4th 1958 by Regulations No 128 but there is no flag law. The white flag has a red city emblem in the center. The city emblem is a stylized hiragana やお Yao. The circle symbolizes an execution of a peaceful city administration and the trisected circle does a peace, a freedom and an equality. It represents a future development of the city.
