In the centre of the town is the confluence of the Nioyodo, Sakaori and Yanase Rivers. Until the start of the Edo period, the location was known as Mio (三尾 三尾 - three tails) village, as the rivers looked like three tails.
The emblem shows three katakana ヲ (ヲ transcribed /wo/, but used for the particle pronouned /o/) joined together. It shows "a town with progressive movement at the confluence of three rivers" and is a symbol of the town's progress and improvement.
