Overview

Trakai district - on a blue field the arms of Trakai District: an unmounted knight with lance and shield and with the Gediminas Gate. Flag proportions 5:6, free edges bordered with narrow silver and red rectangles framed on both sides with narrow silver stripes, finial is a golden lance head with a ring. The arms are the ancient arms of the Trakai Duchy and Province, originating in the 14th century, and this particular design is based on the armory of the early 15th century. The "Gediminas Gate" is now considered the Lithuanian national symbol, but historically it originated as the badge of the Kestutis / Vytautas branch (Dukes of Trakai, later Grand Dukes of Lithuania) of the Gediminas Dynasty. The blue field is traditional for banners of Trakai province.
