The Carabiniers are prescribed by Law No. 806 promulgated on 12 December 1991 as the proper troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The Carabiniers are organized in the Carabinier General Inspectorate and three regional subdivisions.
Carabinier Tudor Casapu (b. 1963), representing the United Team, won the gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona in men's weightlifting - 75 kg event.
Carabinier Oleg Moldovan (b. 1966) won the silver medal at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games in the men's shooting 10 m running target event.

The flag and arms of the Union of Carabinieri Veterans' Organizations of the Republic of Moldova, prescribed by Decision No. 46.5 issued on 23 December 2016 by the Board of the association, were registered on the Armorial G�n�ral by Decision No. 15 issued on 2 May 2017 by the Heraldry National Commission of the Republic of Moldova and published on 30 June 2017 in the official gazette, No. 216-228, Article 1,205.
The flag is composed of a rectangular (2:3) cloth, light red, charged in the center with two yellow rifles crossed in saltire, cantonned in chief by a white military grenade with yellow flames grenade and in base by a white armored right hand., the whole surrounded by two yellow maple branches tied together in base.
On the flag's reverse, on a light red field, the writing on four lines in yellow capital letters "ASOCIAŢIA OBŞTEASCĂ / UNIUNEA ORGANIZAŢIILOR VETERANILOR / TRUPELOR DE CARABINIERI / DIN REPUBLICA MOLDOVA� ["PUBLIC ASSOCIATION / UNION OF VETERANS' ORGANIZATIONS / CARABINIER TROOPS / FROM THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA"].
The flag is a banner of the arms of the General Inspectorate, the border of the shield omitted.
