Description
According to Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Heraldry website:
The new arms represent the beginning of the town, because the town started after the English government in the beginning of the Second World War built a battery in what is now Ix-Xgħajra. The people working there started living round this battery and thus a small hamlet was formed, which eventually evolved into a small town.
This photograph in the Ix-Xgħajra local council website shows a local flag flying from the Local Council Offices, situated in the Batteria delle Grazie, which is not a banner of the arms but a white flag with the (shield-shaped) arms on it.

Ix-Xgħajra is in process to change its flag — perhaps the process is already ended but I don't have news.
Jaume Ollé, 5 March 2000
Blazon: Azure three ears of wheat Or. According to Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Heraldry website:
The old arms with the wheat ears are canting, as xghajra is a Maltese word for grain.
