Description
Blazon: Per fess Argent and Azure, a cross couped counterchanged.

All the coats-of-arms and flags I have found for Iż-Żurrieq show the same basic image, white over blue with a Greek cross counterchanged:
- Pascal Gross' Atlas Géographique Mondial website, with good images of Maltese local flags reported by Thomas Borg (a Maltese from Mellieha), shows this image
- Ralf Hartemink's International Civic Heraldry website reports no change in the Iż-Żurrieq arms, unlike with several other local councils

The flag of Iż-Żurrieq (Malta) is not correct. I don't blame you however, since this flag with the upper white half and the blue lower half is the most commonly used. However the proper Iż-Żurrieq flag should have the upper half which is a lighter shade of blue. This should also replace the lower white half of the cross. The only two colours present are blue and light blue. In fact Iż-Żurrieq gets its name from izraq which means light blue.

This being a banner of arms, I strongly doubt that Argent should be rendered in the flag as light blue. Could in fact Iż-Żurrieq gets its canting name from the regular blue parts of the flag/arms. What does the grant say?

A video of the 2006 Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a Roman Catholic summer street festival in Iż-Żurrieq, Malta, complete with religious procession and marching bands, shows the hoisting of a very large blue flag with a complex armorial emblem, possibly a local club or laymen brotherhood. In the background a national flag can be seen as well as, from 00:01:45 to 00:02:01 and 00:05:35 to 00:05:40, a narrow flag (about 5:3) attached at its hoist to an upright pole; its design is the same as the reported banner of arms of Iż-Żurrieq Local Council , its top edge being the vertical flag's hoist.
