I was informed by the municipal council that its coat of arms was adopted in 1982. It was adopted through a contest in which three groups of the secondary school "Juan Navarrete" participated. The design by student Jesús Noriega Duarte was chosen as the municipal coat of arms. Description of the coat of arms, according to the_National Encyclopedia of Municipalities and Delegations_:

In the upper part, the motto of the municipality "Trabajo, cultura, progreso" [Work, culture, progress], to the center, the book and torch which symbolize education and culture, in the upper left Prinola Hill, in the same quadrant appears the typical tools of mining, in the upper right agriculture is represented and in the lower left the cattle-raising activites; in the fourth quadrant of the lower part beekeeping is represented, activity which constitutes other principal sources of income in the region.
