Arum village

Arum is a village in Wûnseradiel municipality in the province of Fryslân.
Flag: three vertical stripes yellow-red-black; at the hoist the narrowed municipal flag.

Arms: gules a yellow pale, charged with three black combs per pale.
The combs are canting for the family Van Cammingha, which had a "stins" (fortified house) southeast of the church of Arum.

Arum (say a very long aaaaa) is on the road Bolsward - Harlingen, with c. 1000 inhabitants. It is one of the four agricultural villages in Wûnseradiel. In the early 16th century the center of the "Arumer Zwarte Hoop" (black heap), freedomfighters, led by Greate Pier and Greate Wierd, against the Saxon Zwarte Hoop, the Burgundians, and Hollanders in general.
Nickname: "Katten" - the Arumer girls were (are?) rather catty.
"Moudekroepers" - Moude is a kind of clay, in which the Arumer potatoseekers had to do their dusty work.
