Idaerd village
Official name: Idaerd (Dutch: Idaard), in Boarnsterhim municipality, Fryslân. Used to be in Idaarderadeel; in the Middle Ages seat of the "grietenij" (municipality) of Edawerderadeel (1392). Population: (1958) 125; (1973): 117.
Village nickname: "foksen" - foxes. Fox-hunting was quite popular here in ancient times, but perhaps the villagers were also known to be a bit foxy...
Idaerd: Coat of Arms: Divided 1. in silver two red roses; 2. in blue a silver swan swimming with a red beak and black knob. The red roses are derived from the arms of the Scheltinga family, and the swan from the arms of the Friesma family.
Flag: two vertical stripes of blue and red, proportioned 2:1; in the blue stripe a white swimming swan.
