Winschoten municipality
Population (1 Jan 2003): 18.497; area: 22,24 km²; settlements: Winschoten (seat).
Winschoten was the capital of the 'Oldambt' region, important because it was on the line Groningen city - Hamburg. In a fertile agricultural region.
Flag: three horizontal stripes of blue and white, proportioned 1:3:1, with on the white stripe a red plan of a fortress, of which length and width are proportioned 2:3, with a width om the red line 1/36 of flagheight, with 9 embattlements.
Adopted 23 May 1973 by municipal resolution.
The new flag contains the symbol of a fortress, which Winschoten used to be.
