Zuidhorn Coat of Arms
[zh.jpg)](../images/n/nl-gr%29zh.jpg)image sent by Dick Elbers, 2 Oct 2001
The arms have been derived from the Coat of Arms of the Hanckema family, founders of the lordship of Zuidhorn and Noordhorn. After the junction the new coat of arms was designed with symbols referring to the history of the municipality. A central place is for the old monastery of Aduard. The old Aduard municipality arms have been adopted with slight changes. The lion and griffin hail from the arms of Aduard and Grijpskerk.
Info from Ralf Hartemink's site; The old municipal arms are available on that site too.
