Akersloot former municipality
Castricum, Akersloot and Limmenwill be merging on the 1st January 2002.

4991 inhabitants, 2529 hectares, c. 10 km south of Alkmaar. "Aker" = acorn, hence the canting flag, and "sloot" = ditch; this municipality has always been in a wet environment, and still is, its heart being the Alkmaardermeer (lake). It was partly destroyed by Spanish soldiers in October 1573.
The flag was adopted 2 Feb 1960, a Banner of Arms. The Coat of Arms was already used for "wimpelen" (banners) in 1658.
