Vlissingen municipality
Population (1 Jan 2003): 45.219; area: 344,97 km². Settlements: Vlissingen (seat), Oost-Souburg, Ritthem.
In 1966 Vlissingen was enlarged by a large part of Koudekerke, Oost- and West-Souburg and Ritthem, and part of Nieuw- en Sint Joosland.
The flag was adopted 31 Aug 1973 by municipal resolution.
Description: red, with in the center a white "jacobakannetje" (glazed brown jug), chained and adorned yellow and on top a yellow crown of three leaves and two pearls, all proportioned 4/5 of flagheight.
It is not clear when this flag was used for the first time; on 17th century paintings such a flag can often be seen. Many variants are known, such as the "jacobakannetje" on a Dutch RWB flag.
