Scharendijke village
The village of Scharendijke (1,347 inhabitants in 2009) has been a component of the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland since 1997. Originally part of the municipality of Elkerzee, Scharendijke became in 1961 the administrative center of the newly formed municipality of Middenshouwen.
The flag of Scharendijke is horizontally divided red-white-blue-white- blue-white (5:1:1:1:1:1:) with a yellow triangle placed along the hoist and reaching the middle of the flag, charged with a green bell. The flag was designed by Hans van Heijningen, who already designed several flag and arms in the region.
The bell, originally part of the former Bethlehem convent, has been relocated in the bell tower of the village's reformed church, located on Bethlehem Square.
