Zuiddorpe former municipality

Zuiddorpe is a village in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, Zeeland. It was an independent municipality until 1970, when part of it was merged with Axel, and the remainder with Sas van Gent. On 1 Jan 2003 all of Zuiddorpe became part of the new municipality of Terneuzen.
Marie Cécile Moerdijk, the Nightingale of Zuiddorpe, was born here (she won't tell when). Zuiddorpe boasts the introduction of buckwheat in the Netherlands by the Dutch Marco Polo, Joos van Ghistel (1446-1525), who travelled the world 1481-1485 and hid some grains of buckwheat in the Holy Land under his saddle, though that was severely forbidden.
(however buckwheat was introduced at the end of the 14th century...)
Every year in August the Zuiddorpers celebrate Joos' heroic feat by their "Boekweitfeesten", though it was more fun in 1926, when there were 50 pubs for 258 houses.
Flagdescription: yellow with three blue buckwheat flowers, placed 2 and 1.
This flag was not official, but was used as such, especially by the municipal council. The image is identical to the Coat of Arms.
The yellow color refers of course to Marie Cécile's golden locks.
